Javier Reyes was born in Bogot\u00e1-Colombia.
\nBetween 1995 and 2000 he studied Drums at the Javeriana
\nUniversity, where he studied classical percussion for the first three
\nyears, after which he switched to Jazz studies in the same
\nUniversity. In 2000 he graduated with honors.
\nAfter his graduation Javier Reyes was immediatly offered the
\nopportunity to work in Bogot\u00e1 as a Teacher at the Javieriana
\nUniversity and the El Bosque University.
\nIn 2003 he traveled to Berlin to improve his Jazz knowledge. He
\nstudied at Jazz Institut Berlin (Hans Eisler\/UdK), where in 2008 he
\nobtained a Music Education degree with honors. One year later he
\nObtained a master’s degree with Emphasis on Composition from
\nthe same University.
\nSince 2009 he works as a percussion and drums teacher and
\ncoach in the Latin Ensemble at Jazz Institut Berlin.
\nHe plays in Berlin with different bands in styles that range betwenn
\nJazz, Rock and Pop:
\nSlight Defekt, Semacordes, Kelvin Sholar Group (feat. Carl Craig,
\nMoritz von Oswald), Katja Erbstein (well known german singer and
\nactress), Marie S\u00e9f\u00e9rian Quartett (with which won the first Prize at
\nthe 2009 Berliner Jazz Award), Suse Jank und Band (with which
\nwon the third Prize at the Berlin Jazz Award on the same year),
\nVentura, Soname (Enja Label), Ivan Dalia trio, David Riano Molina
\nQuartett and with the well-known german saxophone Player Peter
\nWeniger (with concerts in Colombia, Pakistan and Montenegro).
\nHighlight from the last years include playing with Samuel Torres
\n(Richard Bona, Arturo Sandoval, Lilia Downs, Shakira) and David
\nGilmore (Steve Coleman, Wayne Shorter, Joss Stone). In 2009
\nhe also played on the Jazz Festival Jazz \u00e0 la Villete in Paris with
\nthe band Tribe from Detroit (with renowned musicians like Wendell
\nHarrison (Saxofon), Phil Randelin (Trombone) and Marcus
\nBelgrave (Trumpet), who is well-known for his work with Ray
\nCharles. In 2013 Javier played in Chico Buarque’s „Opera do
\nMalandro“ in the Neuk\u00f6llner Oper in Berlin, which was a total
\nsucess.
\nAs a drummer, he is characterized by his passion and creativity,
\n1and by his involvement in the projects in which he engages, which
\nmake him an irreplaceable element and a key factor of the bands
